We have been at Little Boy Resort for 14 years and never remember having a foot of snow this late in April. So I did some looking back at photos to see what our Aprils have looked like.
I came across some photos where it looks like all the snow melted and then we got anywhere from a dusting to 4”, only to last one day maybe two. One year it was looking good until we got 5” on the Walleye opener in May, but that didn’t last long either.
Here are some of my findings since we have been on the lake.

For this winter we are already over 150 days of ice.
Not much of a pattern, but I will add that in 2012 when it went out early that was the year of the big rain and flooding, so I don’t really want that either. Not sure if there is a happy medium. One thing I do know is, we don’t have much choice in the matter. It is in the hands of Mother Nature. When the ice goes out, the docks and boats go in!
Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.
